The brilliant moon, only half full on that particular evening, was already climbing towards its apex by the time Eamon had reached the magical barrier enshrouding the annual Hollow Creek bonfire. He had only just arrived back at the institute after summer holiday a few hours prior, and as such had considered skipping the evening’s festivities entirely. His presences wasn’t necessarily mandated, but participation from the staff was expected, and he supposed it couldn’t hurt to investigate the fresh crop of students and professors. He was rather relieved to potentially encounter a few new faces, as many of the recently retired teachers at Hollow Creek had been quite elderly and terribly drab. With even the slightest bit of good fortune, the school would prove to be much more entertaining this year.
For a moment, Eamon stared into the expanse of nothingness that sprawled out before him, admiring the eloquence of the deeply overgrown forest that rested at the base of two glorious mountain peaks. It was, of course, a façade- a clearing heavily fortified with cloaking spells and protective barriers intended to divert the direction of all those that weren’t explicitly meant to arrive. As he meandered casually across the magical boundary, it was as if a veil had been lifted from his vision- revealing the true nature of his surroundings. Throngs of young witches and wizards were scattered about, discussing the details of vacations and excitedly plotting out their social calendar's for the academic year. Dotted about in little groups of twos and threes were board members, professors, and a few members of Magical Parliament.
In the very center of the grotto roared an inferno, the sheer height of which most couldn’t possibly fathom. The blaze flickered from a violent orange, to a blinding white, and a spectacularly calming shade of cerulean. He picked and weaved his way achingly slow towards the pillar of fire, reveling in the heat it offered on this crisp autumn night. Eamon’s eyes were that dark, saturated hue of blue that made them appear almost black in the amber glow of the bonfire. Tonight, they restlessly surveyed the crowd, observing the dynamics and interactions of the familiar Hollow Creek population.
Or at least, said population was mostly familiar. As he approached the ring of smooth, black stones that surrounded the otherwise open fire, he noticed a high achieving but entirely intolerable student that had been in his class last semester chatting feverishly to a witch that he was quite sure he hadn’t yet met. He crossed his arms in front of his chest, and watched the humorous interaction with a shamelessly wide grin for a few seconds. The witch before him was young, but not young enough to be a student. No- she must be Magical Parliament, or perhaps even a new member of the Institutes ever-expanding staff. Whoever she was, he thoroughly enjoyed her deep, chocolate-y locks of brown hair, and those adorable dimples adorning her cheeks.
He waited patiently until the student had raced off to be with his housemates before approaching the witch, clearing his throat in an attempt not to startle her. Never one miss a beat, he dove straight into an introduction. “Hello there. I couldn’t help but notice that you were already cornered by one of our resident brown-nosers, I do apologize for that. I don’t believe we’ve met. I’m Eamon, Professor of Mythical Creatures here at Hollow Creek Institute. And who might I have the pleasure of befriending, this evening?” Eamon asked, quirky grin still plastered to his face as he outstretched his hand toward the petite brunette witch. If this is to end in fire we should all burn together It felt only like yesterday when the brown haired girl named Aurora Williams left the department of Aurors. Thanks to her last mission things went not as planned. While she lost her sister, her colleagues didn't back down and started the fight. Meaning she had to lose her sister. It was that day she knew, her colleagues were not going to back down for anything. The people she trusted went ahead and broke her. It was the hard decision she made to leave. Anything to spare her friends and families life. The grieving period started after that. Aurora was still doing that, but now from the inside. It was that she saw an application for the DADA professor at Hollow Creek, that she took the change to go there. With success she got accepted and could start a new life. Something her sister would have wanted. Today the bonfire and the new school year started at Hollow Creek. The place she once was a student at, and now a staff member that was going to teach the students. The headmistress asked her to come earlier, so she could settle herself in the Institute. Preparing herself for the bonfire, she put her stuff in her room as she then headed into the robes outside to the bonfire in the mountains. The evening was beautiful and well organized. Something she was going to enjoy. The moon half full gave a glimpse of the magical barrier that protected the bonfire. Finally arriving at the bonfire she took a place near the fire as she saw the beautiful flames dancing. It was then that one of the students started to talk to her, as she looked at him. Giving a soft smile she greeted the student. "It sounds wonderful. At least you have enjoyed your vacation. I will be seeing you in my class later." she said as she gave another smile. The student left and soon someone else approached her. It went so quickly that she couldn't even watch the environment anymore. She turned around to look at the male. “Hello there. I couldn’t help but notice that you were already cornered by one of our resident brown-nosers, I do apologize for that. I don’t believe we’ve met. I’m Eamon, Professor of Mythical Creatures here at Hollow Creek Institute. And who might I have the pleasure of befriending, this evening?” the male said. Looking up at the person, she could see he wasn't a student. Taking in what she said, she stood up and shook the hand of the professor. "Hello. It is fine, students love to have a chatter about the vacation. So I just listened to his story. Nothing else." she said as she gave a soft smile. Putting a string of hair behind her ear. "I'm Aurora, the new Professor of Defence against the Dark Arts." she said. She then took notice of his last sentence. "So at least they have a few younger professors around. I looked at a few of the staff members and they are.... old." she said as she laughed. Hope its okay
